Proud

This girl really never ceases to amaze me.
Once she sets her mind to something, she does it.

She wanted an iphone - we said "no way".
First, let me remind you that she's 10.
She doesn't need a cell phone.
We live 2 minutes from the school.
I am a leisurely stay-at-home mom with a job where I work from home.
I can be at the school in a moments time if there's an emergency.
No phone.

She wanted an ipod touch.
We said "if you want it, you'll have to save up for it."
Guess what?
She did.
That's almost $300 in case you were wondering.

Now, let me tell you a bit about how she earned the money.
She gets $2/week for just being a part of the family.
No chores, per se, to earn that money.
I read somewhere (long ago) that giving your kids a little money each week will help them manage it.
We decided on a measely $2.

She received b-day money.
She received gift cards from different stores that we bought from her with cash.
She did it!
She saved almost $300!

For the record, she's also saved money and bought her own:
ipod
digital camera
and DSI

We're proud of her.
 Perseverance pays off.

  3. That is seriously impressive. Seriously. I read about a family economy that you might be intersted in. It would probably make you broke paying out this little hard worker, but it's super intersting. Here's the link... http://valuesparenting.com/happyfamily4.php

  4. Wow!
She sounds just like my oldest. She has been saving her tiny $3/week allowance (also for being part of the family...I think we read the same thing years back!:) ) and b-day money etc for an American Girl doll! She made it too...we will be shopping there this June! Let's hear it for girls who know what they want and go after it!!!
    Enjoy the day!

Thanks for your kind comment today and for following along!;)

  5. Oh my, I think her and my 9yr old daughter would get along so well! She asks me for a cell phone EVERYDAY! Umm, NO ~ too young. Like you I am minutes from the school and I stay home. Currently she is saving up for a Wii. So glad you found me ~ Nancy seems like an amazing friend to have! Have a great weekend!

  6. My kids together are saving up for a Wii... we had a great talk not long ago explaining credit, and they both agreed that saving up for what they want is a better way to go. They've taken all their allowance, Christmas money, birthday money etc. and pooled it and I think they'll be there by summer. I LOVE that they are learning perserverance, focus and the value of the $! Good job mama!
