Oh yeah, that's me in my training bra in 9th grade.
Prior to sun damage on my face and a dimple that didn't look like a wrinkle.
A freshman in high school.
Don't be jealous.
I was one foxy girl with a dream. To try out for the pom pom squad and make it. And I did! High school was a blast...minus the academics.
Remember the songs from the mid 70's?
Well, let me share a few of my favorites...
Do the Hustle
Night Fever
That's the Way (uh-huh uh-huh I like it)
Jive Talkin' by the Bee Gees
Right Back Where we Started From
(we're gonna get it right back to where we started from....love is good...love can be strong - we're gonna get it right back to where we started from)
The lyrics just rolled off my tongue as if I sang that song yesterday.
I feel my disco moves comin' back right now.
Left hand on my hip and right finger ready to point upward.
I loved dancing with the boys in the silky shirts.
Oh, sweet polyester blend of silkiness.
I miss you.
I loved dancing with the boys in the silky shirts.
Oh, sweet polyester blend of silkiness.
I miss you.
Funny how my eyeglass frames don't look a whole lot different than mine today.
Now, let me ask you.
Have you seen what the girls look like in 9th grade lately?
Was I just a R-E-A-L-L-Y slow bloomer?
Yes, I was!
Is it the hormones in the food that make today's girls look so much older?
Big difference between the girls of 2010 and the me of 1975.
Do share your favorite freshman pic soon and come back to tell me about it.

look how sweet you were! when i was a freshman in high school it was 1989 and there was a.lot of hairspray in fashion. bad...very, very bad.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sinking cute! I think it's the clothes and hair that make the kids look older these days, not the skin and bodies. Although I don't know too many 9th graders, so it's possible that kids I think are 14 are actually 9. Shutter. That scares me. Anyway, you don't look that much different, really. Will post mine at some point. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I had a pic for you, you would die! i had short curly hair, a reddish brown and it was kind of long on one side! I wore matching clothes. My favorite was a white shirt with red polka dots, red pants, white socks and red Keds. Oh, and I wore red ball earrings! The year was 1986! I was a looker, meaning everyone looked away as fast as they could! I think it must be the hormones or the fact that everyone drinks bottled filtered water these days. Girls in 9th grade look like they are in 12th and the boobs on some of these gals, gheesh!
ReplyDeleteThis just made my stinking NIGHT!!! Love every word and especially the pic. Me in 9th grade? Oh dear... it was bad. Me in 9th grade makes You in 9th grade look like Miss Teen USA.
ReplyDeleteI just don't think it would be in my best interest to show my 9th grade pic... I would cry for days! the rest of high school maybe... I would just like to erase 9th grade! =) You were adorable!
ReplyDeleteI have been away to long!!! But I am glad I did not miss this cute picture!!! I think I burned all of my freshman pics. You look great! Hope you are gearing up for a great summer!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, Darlene. I think we were all "late bloomers" back then, and I wish it were still that way today. Today's 9th graders look like they're graduating from high school.
